When the first people came across the great plains from back east to settle the untamed west, they didn't know what to expect. But they were hard working and knew that God would provide for them. It was this and their perseverance that helped them survive the west.
We are the ancestors of these determined people but we aren't anything like them. They were hard working people; we nowadays don't work as hard on things as we should. They made do with the bare essentials and didn't buy anything they didn't absolutely need; we have so much money and so many different things to spend it on that we buy many things we don't need at all. The pioneer women wore long skirts and kept their hair long, I'm not trying to slam women wearing pants of cutting their hair now, but women should retain their femininity. Pioneer men believed in hard work and protecting their families at any cost, even to the point of humiliating themselves; nowadays men don't want to embarrass themselves for anyone, not even their families.
We should try to get back to pioneer values. I suggest that whoever reads this post try to go at least a week without many modern conveniences. Men, I suggest you try fixing a few things yourselves instead of just buying new things; what if you were pioneers who couldn't just get new things?
Women, I suggest you try wearing dresses for a week; see how well you can manuever in a long skirt or dress. What if you were pioneers who didn't have the option to wear pants?
We must be thankful for all the blessings God has given us in this day and age, but let's make our pioneer ancestors proud by not giving into every modern convenience.
